Dragonfly Dreams

Hi Folks,

Following on from my previous 2 posts I recently learned a beautiful watercolour stamping technique and I just love it. I can’t stop playing with it. I’m not so sure that I got it quite right with this one though. What do you think of it?

If you’ve not already seen the two previous posts to compare check out Watercolor Wings and Flower Patch.

A very quick explanation of how to create this watercolour effect. You MUST use watercolour paper. Stampin’ Up! do an excellent quality card. Check out listed supplies below.

Using a Stampin’ Spritzer, you liberally spray the watercolour card with water, then stamp your image immediately on to this whilst its still very wet. I started with the solid bloom stamp to get the layout. It will run and bleed. This is the intention. You can use kitchen towel paper to mop up any colour that has run into areas that you didn’t wish it to. Do this as you go along, before it dries.  A quick blast with the Heat Tool dried it off enough to work on the second layer. Again, mist the card with water, although not as much this time, and repeat the process.  Keep repeating process again but with less water each layer to give a more defined image. Finish by stamping the same image but without spritzing to give a clearly defined image. Just keep working at it until you are happy with the result. Make sure card is totally dry before you stamp your sentiment otherwise it will blur (as mine did). I also added a little Smoky Slate around and in the wings to create a bit more definition and depth.

I could play with this technique for hours! Try it with the Watercolor Wings and Flower Patch stamp too if you have it.

Have a go and let me know how you get on. :) I do love to hear from you. (that way I don’t feel like I’m talking to myself) 😉

Any questions just give me a shout.

  2. Hi Lillian,
I love your water color technique and used Watercolor Wings right away to copy it. I want to thank you for using Watercolor Wings and Flower Patch. It seems like the minute a new catalogue comes out, the new stamps are all we see. It is refreshing to me that you demonstrated with those sets. I really appreciate your posts.
