DSP Wreath – How to make it

DSP Wreath

Hi Folks,

Following up on a previous post, I thought I would add a little more detail for you on how to make the DSP wreath. You’ve just got to try it out for yourself. It really does look fantastic. I simply used DSP however you could add so much more to it to make it your own.

For example, check out the ever so beautiful Mini Ornaments and the stunning Striped Ribbon. Or what about the wonderful little Green Sprigs and the Jute Twine! How amazing would these look in your DSP Wreath.

There is so much more you can do with it and it’s all to hand in your Stampin’ Up! Autumn/Winter catalogue. If you don’t have a catalogue and would like one, let me know and I will get one off to you. 🙂

This DSP Wreath is such an easy project to make and it is ever so relaxing to do. Gather a few friends around. Break open those tubs of ‘Christmas favourite chocolates’ that have appeared already in the Supermarkets. Have some Hot Chocolate or Gluhwein on the go (even though it’s not cold enough for it yet it certainly puts you in the Christmas Spirit – so to speak) 🙂 Or let the children help (if they’re old enough). Show them how to make curls using the bone folder. It’s great fun! I will be making some for friends and family and some for the local charity shops (those one’s I will definitely use the glue gun). They’re a bit addictive once you start making them.

How to make the DSP Wreath:

To make this project, I used dressmaker pins to attach the paper curls. Simple, easy and effective. If however there are going to be children in the vicinity of the finished projects, I would consider using a glue gun to assemble the wreath, for the sake of health and safety.

  • You will need between 8 and 10 sheets of 12″ x 12″ DSP, cut in to 1/2″ widths and 1 Polystyrene 1/2 round ring (25cm) – purchased from Amazon.
  • Curl the strips with a bone folder, working from the middle of the strip out to the ends. This will in effect then give you two curls.
  • Start pinning or gluing them to the ring. It will look really odd as you work with it but don’t be tempted to abandon the project. It will turn out beautifully in the end.
  • Keep working until you feel that the wreath is ‘full’ enough for your liking. I basically worked mine until there wasn’t a centimetre of space showing.

The picture actually doesn’t do it justice. I now need to put the ribbon on. (that’s a job for tomorrow)

P.S – Please note that my DSP Wreath was made using retired DSP, just to try it out. In the listed ‘Supplies’ I’ve suggested some DSP Packs that you will definitely want to check out in the current promotion. But don’t limit yourself, you must check out the fantastically gorgeous Designer Series Paper in the Autumn/Winter catalogue. My current favourite is Merry Little Christmas DSP. It’s so striking!

Do note however that Petal Garden, Colour Theory and Wood Textures are paper stacks therefore 6″ x 6″. You could indeed use these however you will need to pin them by the ends and not the middle of the curl (and would need to cut more sheets.

I think these wreaths are beautiful not sure I would have the patience.

I agree a festive one with the striped ribbon, baubles and sprigs would be amazing!
